Dr. Juan Camarena is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, and AASECT certified Sex Therapist. Dr. Camarena is a full-time Lecturer in the Community-Based Block Licensed Professional Clinical Counseling Program at San Diego State University, and Co-Director of the Center for Community Counseling and Engagement.
He also provides psychotherapy at his independent practice, and he trains other therapists on working effectively and compassionately with Latino and LGBTQ+ individuals.
Dr. Camarena’s research is focused on the abilities of Latino, African American, and Afro-Latino same-sex attracted men to understand their multiple identities and thrive.
